Dr. Naila Farooq
For more than 34 years, Dr. Naila Farooq has been dedicated to delivering top-quality dental and oral health services, specializing in pediatric dentistry since 1999. Recently named one of America's Top Dentists by the Consumers' Research Council of America, she takes great pride in her private practice, Lakes Pediatric Dentistry in Commerce Township, Michigan. Driven by a mission to ensure her patients receive timely and comprehensive dental care, regardless of the time or day of the week, she remains dedicated to providing exceptional service to infants, toddlers, children, and teens.
Dr. Farooq has traveled the globe to pursue her education. She first obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from De'Montmorency College of Dentistry in her native Pakistan, earning a gold medal as the top graduate. She then traveled to the United Kingdom on a Commonwealth Scholarship to study at UCL Eastman Dental Institute, where she earned her Master of Science in dental public health and a diploma in dental public health from the Royal College of Surgeons. Finally, Dr. Farooq moved to the United States, where she received her Master of Dental Science and a certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Maryland. She also completed her residency and post-doctoral fellowship at the Departments of Pediatric Dentistry and Oral and Craniofacial Biological Sciences.
Throughout her distinguished career, she has held private practice positions at Henry Ford Medical Group in Detroit, as well as at Aga Khan University Hospital and the Medical Center in Pakistan. Dr. Farooq has also contributed to academia with appointments in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, along with the Department of Dental Public Health at De'Montmorency College of Dentistry.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Farooq has made significant contributions to the field of dentistry through her research and publications. She co-authored scholarly articles such as "Knowledge and Opinions and Practices Related to Oral Cancer Results of Three Elderly Racial Groups" for Special Care in Dentistry and "Success Rates of Formocresol Pulpotomy and Indirect Pulp Therapy in the Treatment of Deep Dentinal Caries in Primary Teeth" for Pediatric Dentistry. Her commitment to advancing dental knowledge is further exemplified by receiving prestigious awards, including the National Institutes of Health National Research Award training grant and a Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award, totaling over $400,000.
Even today, Dr. Farooq continues to advance her education to provide the highest quality care to patients by participating in professional organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and an active member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, Michigan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Oakland County Dental Society. While her tenure on the ADPAC Board has concluded, she continues to serve on the MDA PAC board, she has also taken on the role of PAC Champion from Michigan to AAPD this year. Additionally, Dr. Farooq is completing her Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion fellowship with the ADA.
